Marisa is qualified from Ohio State University in 2007.
Marisa came to the James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C. where she completed a three-year residency in cardiology and the Jane Lewis-Seaks postdoctoral fellowship.

Prior to her residency and postdoctoral fellowship, she completed two internships in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Michigan State
University and Emergency and Critical Care at Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in North Grafton, Massachusetts.

During her residency, she was awarded the 2012 ACVIM Resident Research Award. Her research interests include neurohormonal activation in heart failure – specifically the pharmacologic blockade of the renin-angiotensinaldosterone system (RAAS), the effects of various drugs on RAAS, aldosterone breakthrough, and new applications for pimobendan in refractory heart failure.
